This year we’ve already seen more players venture into Tyria for the first time since 2015— the year we made the base game content playable for free and launched our first expansion, Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns™. This has been one of the best years for Guild Wars 2 in recent memory, and we’re eager to keep building on that momentum.
When the next episode is released (also for free) the previous one can be obtained using the gem store (200 gems = 43 in-game gold = 2.5$). Right now, Guild Wars 2 is doing an event for returning players and others that may want to experience this content. Basically, each week, they release the episode again, for free.

Very worth it to play for free - you get hours of free content and the class story is great. Also the game's very friendly to playing alts, so you can play out the class stories with different story Light-Neutral-Dark story choices. Some of the class stories have different endings as well depending on your character choices.

There is also this one line " Upgrade to a full Guild Wars 2 account to unlock this swift and agile companion permanently! " which is different from saying "Buy Path of Fire to unlock it permanently" as another line claims " To further train the raptor's mobility and combat skills, accounts must have the Guild Wars 2: Path of Fire expansion Accessing guild banks Buying dyes Not as many character slots (2) compared to (5) With heart of thorns rocking up, You won't have access to; The new maps The new specializations The revenant Guild Halls Any of the new mastery systems; gliding, Legendary gathering, Legendary armour, raids.
Mix of both. steam launcher is better because you can use -provider Portal to login to your arenanet account. anyone who doesn't know, it's a ♥♥♥♥♥ to install Guild Wars 2 from primary launcher, it won't let you use like 1.5Gbps internet connections and will instead simply download at like 2-10MB/s all the way through.
