If you want to add grip at track level, you can simply paint it. I use Scaley Sport and run non mag. With a clean track, standard Scaley, SCX, NSR, and Ninco tyres, all hook up real well. If you find you want more grip, then Ortmann tyres can provide this.

The normal procedure for programming is to remove all cars from the track. Place the car to be programmed on the track and press the program ID button (buttons found on the powerbase, just above where the hand controllers are plugged in). This car is now programmed with the specified ID. Repeat this operation for any other cars that need an ID
The Scalextric power base should have two red wires and two black wires that feed to the rails of the two lanes. The two red wires are joined together in the powerbase (ie common). A standard Scalextric power supply will be enough to get your track going so stick with that until you have it all sorted out.
Clean Track Surface. The track surface may also need to be cleaned as dust can build up and reduce the grip level. You can simply use a cloth to wipe clean or a few laps driving a car around the circuit will help to clean the rails and surface. Power Taps. It is possible to improve the power consistency around track by adding power taps.
